OBITUARY.

The death occurred on November IS of Mrs. Catherine Stratton, wife of Mr. G. J. Stratton, at the family residence in Weraroa Road, Levin. The deceased lady was born in Wellington in 1868, being the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Ridler, who came from Hobart to Dunedin in 1863. The late Mr. Ridler was a builder and contractor, who carried out many important works in the old days; he built most of the railway stations from Wellington as far as Featherston, and also did much of the blocking wodi in the Kinmtaka tunnels. Mrs. Stratton was married at) Lower Hutt tn 1891. her husband being a son of one ot the first settlers in the province, the late Mr George Stratton, of Hutt, who arrived from Scotland by the ship Lady Nugent in 1841. _ Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Stratton were farming at 'Tiakitahuna, in the I almerston North district, for 18 years, later at Manakau, and still later at Levin, where they resided for the last nine years, lhe deceased leaves a family ot four. i ‘^ eie being one son, Mr. George E. P. Stratton, of Koputaroa. and three daughters—Mis. A. McKinlay (Wanganui). Mrs. A. R.Anderson (Palmerston North), and Miss K. Stratton (Levin). The eldest son, William .Tames, was killed in action at Passchcndaele. The grandchildren number nine, and Mrs. Stratton is also survived bv five brothers (one of whom is in England) and four sisters, these being Mrs. E. T. Bull (Weraroa .Settlement), Sirs: E."
