FIRE AT NEWTOWN

The Fire Brigade received a call at 9.10 last night to 35 Lawrence Street, Newtown, a two-floored wooden building with an iron roof, containing 11 rooms, used as flats. The top flat, containing seven rooms, was occupied by Charles Herbert Holley, while the lower flat of four rooms was occupied by John Kerr. The contents of the upper flat are insured. but there is no policy covering the contents of the lower flat. The flames had a good hold on the place, which is owned by Mr. Lake, when the brigade arrived, and severe damage was done by fire and water to the building and contents.
