DAME MILLICENT FAWCETT Australian Press Assn.—United Service. (Rec. August 5, 7 p.m.) London, August 5. Obituary.—Dame Millicent Fawcett, political essayist and biographer; aged 82. [Dame Millicent Fawcett was the widow of the Right Hon. Henry Fawcett, the economist, who was Postmas-ter-General in one of Gladstone’s Ministries. Miss Philippa Fawcett, who had a distinguished career at Cambridge, and became in 1905 principal assistant in the Education officers’ department of the London County Council, is her daughter. During her husband's life Dame Millicent was closely associated with him in all his work, his blindness making him in many ways extremely dependent upon her. She produced various works on economics, as well as a “Life of Queen Victoria,” and other publications. Dame Millicent was an advocate of women’s suffrage, and in 1907 was president of the National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies, but she was opposed to the tactics of the militant sufragists.J LORD LOUGHBOROUGH Australian Press Assn.—United Service. London, August 4. The death Is announced of Lord Loughborough at the age of 36. It Is disclosed that Lord Loughborough fell from a window into the garden of his West End house and died five hours later. Australian Press Association. London, August 4. Lord Loughborough fell nearly 60 feet from a fourth story window. He was found unconscious with a compound fracture of the foot and arm and his spine injured. He was hurried to hospital, where an operation was performed. It is a mystery how he fell, but he had previously complained of being unwell. [Lord Loughborough was the only son of the Earl of Rosslyn. He served throughout the European War in the Armoured Car Division, the Coldstream Guards, and as captain in the King’s Royal Rifles. He married in 1915 Miss Sheila Chisholm, of Australia, and leaves two sons.]
