CARTERTON SHOW

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

Carterton, June 15.

The general committee o£ the Walrarapa P. and A. Society met at Carterton on Saturday, Mr. H. Morison presiding. The treasurer’s statemetn reported a bank overdraft, £1254 13s. lOd. Receipts since last meeting were £ll2 13s. 7d. The following judges accepted their appointments:—R. Channley (Dannevlrke), dairy cattle; W. G. Vickers (Levin), fat lambs; C. H. Andrews (Wellington), butter; Department of Agriculture, cheese classes; A. T.- P. Hubbard (Masterton), weeds and grasses. The New Zealand Produce Association Ltd. advised that they were arranging for an exhibit of Scotch Cheddar, English Cheddar and Canadian Cheddar cheese at the next show. The Dairy Control Board advised that the board would give every assistance In connection with cheese to be exhibited nt the show, and then judged in London. Mr. W. A. lorns was accorded a vote of thanks for his assistance in the matter. Colonel T. W. McDonald, M.P., wrote that he had the assurance of the Minister of Lands that the Government did not contemplate asking Parliament to amend section 52 of the Valuation of Land Act, 1925, in the direction feared by the society. A letter of thanks is to be sent to Colonel McDonald for the information. Mr. W. McKenzie was appointed delegate to the annual conference of the New Zealand Kennel Club. Eight new members were elected, two resignations accepted, and five resignations were held over. Mr. C. Reid .was appointed chairman of the ground committee, and Mr. G. Hart deputy-chairman. It was recommended that the Carterton butter-fat competition be discontinued, and a conference Ib to be arranged with the four persons who are interested in the cup, for their decision. Representatives of the society were appointed for each South Walrarapa town to co-operate with the Farmers’ Union in entertaining the Southland farmers upon their visit to the Walrarapa.
