The value of familiarity with some of the by-ways of general knowledge was usefully displayed by Mr. Justice Frazer at the sitting of the Arbitration Court recently (states the Auckland “Herald”). At one stage of a compensation case counsel became vitally concerned about the determination of “what day was September 18, 1928.” The Courtroom almanac gave no restrospect of that year—its concern was only for 1929. Just as the Registrar of the Court produced a 1928 calendar His Honour anticipated the reference by remarking, "Well, this year the days of the week are a day ahead of those of 1928”; and so it proved that September 18 this year is. a Wednesday and that last year it was a Tuesday.
