RAILWAY EXCURSIONS

The increasing popularity of the cheap Sunday fares on the Manawatu and Hutt lines was well in evidence yesterday. The new - 9 a.m. train to Palmerston North, providing as it also does a handy connection from the ferry steamer, carried approximately 900 passengers over GOO excursionists going through to Palmerston North. The 9.30 a.m. to Paekakariki was also a heavy train, and altogether the augmented train services handled approximately 1700 passengers throughout the day. jThe Hutt services were .also well patronised. « A week-end excursion tram from Napier to Wellington on Saturday, returning Sunday, carried approximately 200 passengers. Tlie Friday and Monday half-fare excursions from Wellington to Waitomo Caves or Auckland was also well patronised. The Napier and Waitomo week-end excursions were personally conducted.
