. WANGANUI SEASON OPENS.
Wanganui, October 28, The croquet season in Wanganui opened with a brilliant gathering, when the Wanganui Croquet Club’s'beautiful grounds at St. John’s Hill was the rendezvous for a representative gathering. The weather was dull, and the scene on tlie lawns was a gay and happy one.. With the prospects of the summer months ahead, tho gates were thrown open, and a crowd of members and their friends met upon the beautiful lawns. Mrs. G. A. Crawford, the president, who wore a frock of navy blue georgette, trimmed with navy blue over cyclamen, and navy blue toned hat, was hostess, and was helped by an army of willing friends in providing tea for the visitors and members. She spoke in reply to the Mayor’s speech, and welcomed all the guests, After the Mayoress struck the first ball competitions, which resulted as follow, were played:—Angles, prize donated by Mrs. Skeat. Mrs. Tingey; skittles, prize donated by Mrs. M. Pauli. Mrs. Kennedy; breaks, prize donated by Mrs. Lew Bassett, Mrs. Jarvie; all hoops in best strokes, prize donated by Mrs. Len Bassett, Mrs. Wallace. ,
