OSCAR SLATER’S APPEAL
WHO WILL PAY THE COSTS? (Australian Press Assn—United Service.i (Rec. September 18, 7.35 p.m.) London, September 18. The Scottish Office refuses to pay the costs of Oscar Slater’s appeal, amounting to about £l5OO. Tlie public subscription amounted to £7OO. Sir Conan Doyle, having guaranteed £lOOO, will have to find £3OO. He expresses the opinion that the Scottish Office should pay the lot, as its stupidity created the situation.
