WAREHOUSEMEN’S UNION PROTESTS.
Br Telegraph.—Press Association.
Dunedin, October 11
The Government's intention to amend the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act was warmly discussed by a largely attended annual meeting of the Dunedin Warehousemen's Union in the Trades Hall this evening, when the following resolution was carried unanimously: "The Dunedin Amalgamated Warehousemen’s Union hopes that the Government will not be unwise enough, to meddle with tlie constitution of the Arbitration Court of make serious alteration in the Industrial Conciliation, and Arbitration Act without first consulting the trade unions on the matter. The Arbitration Act, by providing aft equitable means of settling industrial disputes as they arise and by giving stability to wages and conditions of employment, is the chief factor in the preservation of industrial peace in this Dominion, and if the Government in obedience to wild criticism levelled at the Court by employers’ organisations stultifies the Court, security and confidence will disappear and the result of years of patient work will be shattered and the business of the country will be further hampered by the confusion and strife that are bound to follow, with unhappy results for employers and workers alike.”
