AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY AGAINST FURTHER BENEFITS. Dominion Special Service. Auckland, October 11. On the ground that a proportion of the profits of the M.acurthy Trust is made from breweries and licensed houses the Auckland Presbytery decided to ask the General Assembly not to apply for any further grants from the trust. The Rev. L. H. Hunt submitted the following overture: "That whereas certain committees connected with our church have applied for and received grants from the Macarthy Trust and that.as the said trust is at present deriving profits from the liquor traffic, and whereas our church has already committed itself to a policy total abolition of that traffic, this presbytery respectfully overtures the General Assembly to instruct its committees not to apply for any more grants from the said trust, anil, further, that, it instructs the convenor of the Maori Mission Committee to refund the sum of 41100 appearing in the blue book, 1926. ind such other sums as have teen received by this committee.” The motion w;.s discussed in committee, the second portion of the motion referring to the refund of grants already made was deleted and the first portion was cai»ied. Five of the presbytery had their dissent ro corded.
