CHOCOLATE AND CONFECTIONERY

Referring to recent interviews published in connection with the tariff o< chocolate and confectionery, Mr. John Kingsland, president of the New Zealand Biscuit and Confectionery Manufacturers’ Association, telegraphs as follows from Invercargill:—

"On behalf of all chocolate and confectionery manufacturers throughout the Dominion, I must protest strongly against the statements appearing in your issue of October 6 to the effect that the northern section of manufacturers only desire an increase! tariff. Practically all engaged in this industry in New Zealand are unanimous that increased protection is essential to the development of the industry. 'The statement made by merchants and importers is exaggerated and misleading/’
