PAHIATUA NOTES

Pahiatua, October 10.

The annual meeting of the Pahiatua Anglers’ Club was held on Friday night, Mr. J. Robertson presiding over a fair attendance. The annual report and bal-ance-sheet were unanimously adopted, complimentary references being made to the success that had attended the club in its initial year. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. H. Cowan; president, Mr. J. Robertson; vice-presidents, Dr. H. Paterson, Messrs. F. M. Gregorie, J. Byrne, T. H. Verrv, G. R. MacKenzie, D. Kelly; committee, Messrs. J. O’Brien, P. J’. Matthews, S. F. Bailey, A. Pratt, J. O’Stykc, C. McCardle, A. Morgan, F. Parkes, A. Morgan, 11. C. Beales, J. 11. Brown, J. 11. Knowles, S. Macrae; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Hutton. A prolonged discussion took place as to whether one or three selectors should be appointed to choose teams to compete for the Stockwell Cup. On a division being taken those in favour of one selector were in the majority, and Mr. J. Hutton was appointed to the position. It was decided to offer the Woodville Anglers’ Chib October 16 as the day on which to fish for the right to hold the Stockwell Cup, and the Mangatainoka as the river on which to hold the contest. It was also resolved that the competition commence at 7 a.m It was decided to institute a gold medal competition. to be held on three occasions, and to be won three times before becoming the property of the successful fisherman, the first of the series of the contest to commence on October 23, and nil bags to be handed in by 6.30 p.m on that date.

Miss Janet McFarlane, Palmerston North, is on a visit to Pahiatua. She is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Hodd. The funeral of the late Mrs. Margaret Cormack took place on Saturday afternoon, and was very largely attended The coffin was covered with manv beautiful wreaths. The Rev F. McDonald conducted the burial service.
