SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS
Carterton, October 10. A new departure in the transport of show stock will be made by a Fielding exhibitor of sheep at the Wairarapa Show at Carterton this month. He proposes forwarding his exhibits by motor-lorry, leaving Feilding at 3.30 on the morning of the first day of the show. Mr. E. A. Cathpbell,, manager of the Greytowu branch of the Bank of New Zealand, will retire at the end of next month on superannuation. Shearing operations have already commenced in some portions of the Lower •Valley. The main shearing will not, however, commence until the end of the present month. The outlet of the Wairarapa Lake, which has been closed for some time, has now been successfully reopened. The settlers of the Lower Valley have decided to make representations to the Postal Department for a daily mail delivery, and, failing that, that the ordinary service should be adhered to. It is understood that the Department intends to renew the service from Kahutara. The Bishop of Wellington will conduct confirmation services at Greytown and Carterton on October 30.
