BOWLS
CENTRE TOURNAMENT BEGINS THIS MORNING. The annual rink tournament of the Wellington Bowling Centre will commence at 9 a.in’, to-day on the Wellington, Victoria, Hataitai, and Thomson Clubs’ greens. There are fortyeight entries, which will account lor twelve rinks on each of the greens, which are the best offering in the eity. Given fine weather, the tournament should be highly enjoyable. Owing to the rain which has fallen over the last two days the greens are. not Intely to be aS bright and keen as they might be, but should the sun shine om w day that defect will soon be remedied as the rain has not been particularly heavy. The official opening of the tournament will take place at the Wellington Club’s green, where the president of the centre (Mr. S. M. Stone) will make his inaugural remarks. Three games of twenty-one heads will be played today, to-morrow, and on Wednesday. Post section play will begin on Thursday morning, so that, given fair weather, the tournament may conclude on Fridav.
The Hutt Valley rink tournament will be commenced on the Petone, Central, and Hutt greens on Saturday next.
