NELSON NEWS

“Dominion” Special.

Nelson, February 11,

With reference to the request from a deputation representing the Harbour Board and Citv Council that the Government vest a certain portion of the foreshore in the board, a reply was received at yesterday’s meeting of the latter body from the Minister of Railways agreeing to the proposal on the condition, among others, that the board pay •£l9OO, representing the capitalised amount of revenue received by the Department, and that the Department reserve the right to resume any portion for railway purposes upon paying tho cost of any expenditure on the reclamation of the area taken. The board considered the conditions very reasonable and accepted them. The chairman (Sir. 11. R. Duncan) remarked ’flat the reclamation scheme opened up £reat possibilities of still further beautifying the city and removing the unsightly and at times malodorous approach to the town.

At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Championships Association, the following, were elected the committee of management:—Messrs. ; A. Robinson (chairman), J. A. Stringer, E. B. Martin, W. H. Simpson (Nelson), E'art (Hastings), Wanden (Blenheim), W. B. McKenzie (Wellington), and another to be selected to represent Wellington. Mr. E. D. Barry was re-elected secretary. The annual conference of delegates of affiliated societies was fixed for March 11 at Wellington. A letter was received fioni the North Island Poultry Association suggesting that the association and the Championships Association should amalgamate, and asking on what terms this could be done. The proposal being one that ((would require earnest consideration a special committee was set up to go thoroughly into it.
