PROCLAMATION GAZETTED, A proclamation in the Government Gazette issued yesterday makes clear the territorial scope of the Deteriorated Lands Act in so far as it' is at present proposed to apply that relieving measure.
The proclaimed area—within which are to be found, in greater or less de gree, deteriorated lands—ranges from South Taranaki and the western side of the Wanganui River, up to Kawhia on the West Coast. This includes the wellknown Waioeka country, which has been quoted by opponents of deforestation as an object lesson, and as an argument for respecting the remaining forests of the Urewera.
