POLICE CASES. Mr. W. G. Riddel), S.M., presided in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. -Joseph Murphy, a third oflendcr for drunkenness, -was ,fined Tl, in default three days’ imprisonment. On a charge of wilfully committing a grossly indecent act, Alexander Gilchrist ivas fined «£3, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. For being drunk he was convicted and discharged George Macilwce, alias AVilliam Brown, a fireman, for using obscene language, was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment, and ordered to be placed on board his vessel if it sailed hefore the expiration of the sentence. For fighting in the street, Janies Daley, alias Da.lv,‘and Edward Boyle, were each fined .81, in default seven days imprisonment. Charged with desertion from the s.s. lonic, Stephen Hunter, Harry Ferguson, and George Pridmore were each sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. Walter Cowan, a seaman, who was charged with unlawfully carnally knowing a girl under sixteen years o£ age, at Auckland, was remanded to appear there on January 9. i . Arthur Brice, alias M'llsou, on a charge of vagrancy, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. On a similar charge Annie Burns, alias Spencer, was convicted and ordered to come up foi sentence when called upon within six mouths. - , Robert Herbert Donham, a fruiterer, who pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a motor truck while in a state of intoxication, was fined .£lO, m default fourteen days’ imprisonment. A fortnight was allowed in which to pay the fine.
