ALL TO BE ABOLISHED. BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.! Nelson, January 7.. At tho December ’meeting of the Waimea County Council a petition was received from the. required number ot ratepayers in the Riwaka Road district praying that the Road Board be abolished and the district merged in the county. Tho petition was accepted, and it was resolved to hold a special meeting in tho following month to confirm tho necessary special order and take steps under the Act to abolish the remaining boards in tho county. At today’s meeting of tho council, however, a counter petition was received, praying that the original petition be withdrawn, ns it had been signed under a misapprehension. After discussion, during which it was stated that a legal opinion had been obtained showing that the council should accept the counterpetition, it was resolved to confirm the special order and carry out the original Intention of abolishing the remaining boards.
