EXCESSIVE SPEED ON HUTT ROAD

MOTORIST FINED For driving a motor ear at an excessive speed on the Hutt Road, Henry Schneiderman was fined £5 and costs in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Mr. L. C. Hemery (assistant , city solicitor) stated that the breach of the by-law occurred on April 25 at 6.5 p.m., when there was heavy traffic upon the Hutt Road owing* to the Special Fleet Races and the railway strike.

Inspector Broughton, who had been on duty at Ngahauranga, said that he had seen the car approaching, and when the headlights nicked him out clearly he signalled for it to stop. Instead of stopping the car swerved, and kept ou towards town. Tho car was travelling at the rate of 40 miles per hour, and was also upon the wrong side of the road.
