FIRST COMBINED CHAMPIONf-HIl’S.

The general committee of the first New Zealand Band Championship Contest. have (preliminary arrangements well in hand. The contest is to take place in Auckland from February 23 to 28, and it to issue the programme short.y. At present it has been submitted to the North Island Band Association for approval. The programme provides for "A” and “B” Grade bands, and it is hoped to be able to include a contest for "C” grade bands. This, however, is largely n. matter of finance, which has yet to lv» overcome. His Excellency the Governo ‘ General has accepted the office of patron. In previous years contests have been, held separately in each Island; but now amalgamation has, been secured between tlio two associations, and one championship event will ho held each year alternately in each Island. Major IT S Robinson is secretary of the committee, and Air. R. Francis chairman.
