INDIAN TARIFF
PROTECTION OF STEEL INDUSTRY (Rec. April 28, 5.5 p.m.) Delhi, April 27. The first report of the Indian Tariff Board since its constitution last July lecommends the protection of the Indian steel industry’, and says that it is impossible to conceive a stronger case for Protection than the proposals to recommend an increase of tariff duties mainly to 20 per cent, rising in some cases to 25 and even 30 per cent The board’s proposals open a new chapter in the fiscal history of India The central Legislature may hold a special session and pass the Tariff Bill, thus giving effect to Protection.—Reuter.
