RELIGIOUS FANATICISM
FIGHTINGIN PHILIPPINES. Manila, January 9. Two thousand religious fanatics terrorised Surigao, killed two policemen, and five of the constabulary, and abducted two school teachers. The constabulary is being reinforced. Later advices state that the victims number nineteen, including the captain and lieutenant of the constabulary, General Wood, the Governor, is dispatching 100 constabulary from Manila. It is said that the number of fanatics is nearer one thousand than two.—Reuter. >
(Rec. January 10, 7.20 p.m.) Manila, January 9. Religious fanatics at Buchas Island killed nineteen Philippine constabulary and soldiers, including two officers. The Government immediately ordered a concentration of constabulary on the island of Mindanao for the purpose of sending an expedition to avenge the killings. The slayers are believed to be members of' the Colorum, a religious society, with branches in many parts of the Philippines. The cause of the 'fighting is unknown.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable 'Assn.
