4 An entertainment that merited better patronage than that accorded it was th: wireless concert at the Town Hall Concert Chamber last evening, organised by Mbs. E. Hempton In aid of the purchase of a radio receiving set for the Ewart Consumptive Ward of the Wellington Public Hospital. The attendance was sparse, and the takings will not cover the expenses The concert, which was transmitted from the station of Wellington Broadcasters Ltd., on the top of the big Ford building, Courtenay Place, was of a most enjovable nature. A special aerial was erected at the Town Hall, and »■<,.radio receiving set, equipped with a Magnavox loud speaker, was operated by Mr. H. J. Stott. Ihe contributors were: Mr. and Mrs. De Manny (violinist and pianist respectively), the Aeolian Quartet, Miss Gwen Esau (contralto), Mr. Charles J. Forest (trombone solo), Mr.. Ivan Tarbayeff (tenor), Mr. Barton Ginger (elocutionist), Mrs. Eleanor Hempton soprano), Mr. E. R. Hawkins (baritone), Mr. Claude Tucker (flautist), the Dixie Jazz Boys’ orchestra, and, by courtesy of Mr. Walter Fuller, Mr. Carl Martini' (of the Royal Grand Opera Quintet, of Fulleni’ Vaudeville). Although the oonoert was not a financial success, it is hoped that those who are fortunate enough to possess wireless sets, and others who listenedin io the concert, will remit donations, to help so worthy a cause, to Mrs. Hempton.
