Millar (L.) moved for tho appointment of a Select Committee to inquiro into the salaries of ex-tem-porary clerks entering the Civil Service. He said that Tuesday’s events ought to convince the Government or its obligation in the matter. Mr. G. W. S. Garrett (N.L.), , in seconding the motion, protested against an attempt to mako party capital out of the question. This elicited angry exclamations from the Labour benches Air. Stanley Baldwin. Chancellor of the Exchequer, said that lie was satisfied that there was a general desire for an immediate inquiry. Mr. Ramsay MacDonald expressed +he Labour Party’s satisfaction at Mr. Baldwin’s announcement. After the melee in the House of Commons, Mr. Ramsay MacDonald summoned a meeting of the Labour Party and sharply reprimanded members for singing “The Red Flag.” He urged them to confine their protests to the recognised Parliamentary methods.
