GERMAN WOMAN’S PECULIAR DEFENCE. Melbourne, April 7. A peculiar case came before the North Melbourne Police Court. A German woman, Louisa Muller, was committed for trial for stealing goods, valued at £ll4, from Haddon and Company’s warehouse, whose total losses are stated to be £lOOO. The accused, in the witness-box, admitted taking the goods, but said that her father was interned at the instance of Haddon. This caused, her mother tq fall into ill-health and preyed upon her own mind, so that she was induced to steal as a revenge against Haddon—Press Assn.
