GYMNASIUM BENEFIT SCHEME. > <• The arrangements in connection with the special’ gymnasium benefit scheme were fully discussed at the meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union last evening. The chairman (Mr. J. presided, and there were also present Messrs. G. F. W. Jackson, J. N. Millard, W. J. Hardham, iS. G. Hale, H. Murphy, Father Kane, and A. E. Neilsen (Referees’ Association). The chairman reported that the scheme for playing gymnasium benefit matches had been favourably received, the clubs agreeing to make the arrangements for the fixtures. The proceeds from the tickets sold in each particular instance would be taken by the clubs selling them, while gate receipts would augment the general gymnasium fund. Matches had already been arranged 'for on Saturday tas follow: —Poneke' and Athletic, and Diarist and Barhampore, at Athletic Park: Petonfi and Oriental, at Petone. Permission was granted St. Patrick’s College and Diarist third grade and Athletic and Poneke fourth grade teams to play curtain-raisers to the senior fixtures. Following a discussion in camera, it was decided to invite Johnsonville, Eastbourne, St. Patrick’s, Wellington, and Scots Colleges. Y.M.C.A., and Institute to join in with the scheme. Others desirous of participating will be required to make application prior to the next meeting. “Preference to last Reason’s ticketholders is a burning question,” said tho chairman. “There always has been a lot of grousing, but in my opinion it is Jho only way out. If you know of a better solution, go to it.” Dlr. Millard: It is a good idea to give preference to men who have stood by us for years. Of course we cannot guarantee the particular seat occupied previously; it will bo a case of first come, first served. It was decided to extend the 48-honr preference when the plans open at the union’s offices on April 10 and 17. Personal application, it was pointed out, was essential. The Eastbourne Club were granted permission to travel to DTasterton on Saturday next. The report of the Finance Committee disclosed a credit balance of £B7O Ils. Bd., while the accounts submitted for payment totalled £l2B Bs. 4<l.
