OBITUARY
MR. J. H. MEYER A resident of Wellington for nearly fifty years, Mr. J. H. Meyer, builder and contractor, who died at his residence, Marion Street, on Monday morning, was a wq’.l-known figure about town. He arrived here by the ship Humboldt in February, 1847, and commenced in business here soon after his arrival. Some of his bigger contracts were the erecbion of P. Hayman and Co.’s warehouse, the Pipitea No. 1 Harbour Board shed, the old Technical Training College, W and M. Bannatyne and. Co.’s warehouse, the Hotel Cecil, and New Occidental Hotel. He also erected large buildings at Levin, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Pahiatua, and Featherston. The late Mr. Meyer is survived by a widow and three sons: Messrs. F. H. and J. H. Meyer (Wellington), and G. Meyer (Tauma.runui); and five daughters; Mrs. W. Illingworth (Oamaru), Mrs. J Croft (Johnsonville), Mrs. W. Minnitt (Christchurch), Mrs. H. Mowbray (Auckland), and Mrs. C. Brown Chingford (England). The interment will take place this afternoon.
