NEW ZEALAND TEAAI SAILS FOR AUSTRALIA.
The hopes of New Zealand lawn tennis enthusiasts are centred in the team which left yesterday for Sydney by the Ulimaroa. Tho members of the team were- G. ' Ollivicr (Christchurch), A. W. Sims (Hamilton), A. L. France (Wellington), J. C. Peacock (Wdlir.Eton), A. G. Wallace (Taranaki), and H. L Robson (Auckland). They «ire competing in the Australian championship matches at Sydney at Easter, mid will also play against sub-associa-tions, as well as take- j>art in the City of Sydney championships. Th© Rood wishes of New Zealand go with them in their endeavours to demonstrate to Australians that it is possible for New Zealand to produce tennis players equal to if not superior, to thsr'own. Tho hope exists that they will equal tho record of the 1896 and 1904 teams. Tho management of the team is in the capable and experienced hands of Air. J. C. Peacock, who is also acting as captain. PATTERSON BEATEN BY SCHLESINGER. Melbourne, Alarch 9. R. E. Schlesinger (Alalvern), a colt, beat Gerald L. Patterson in the singles championship, 3—6, 6—3,6 1, 6—3.
