WAR MEMORIAL FUND
YESTERDAY’S STREET COLLECTION Although the morning broke grey and threatening, collectors for the Soldiers’ Memorial Fund were early at work, and iu spite of the weather, strike, unemployment-, and hard times generally, they succeeded in gathering in the sum of £217 13s. 2ld. There is still 1 an amount to come in from ■ Island Bay, also a cheque promised for airs. F. Dyer’s box. Everyone worked indefatigably tho, whole day, and much credit is due io them. The miniature cenotaphs at the Post Qffice were a great attraction, and helped the silver trail. These cenotaphs were made by Messrs. Thomas Foley and Sons, aud'donated by them to the cause, an, action that was greatly ap-, preci ate d f as t/hey were only asked, for at the last moment. However, Messrs. Foley and their assistants worked well on into the night in order that they would be ready in. time. Many thanks are due to members of the Salvation Armv who gave up their time to assist in gathering in funds. Colonel George Hall and Colonel Watson gave valuable assistance in counting up. the cash. 'Hie Mayor, Mr. R. A. Wright, very kindly lent his car. for the day, and this was much appreciated by tho busy secretary,.
