BOWLING
THE PENNANT FINAL
VICTORIA TEAM WINS The winners of A section and B section in the pennant matches met in the final game on Saturday. Johnsonville (A section) had come through with one loss, and Victoria (B section) had won all their matches. It was decided that the final match should be played on a neutral green, and the Thorndon Club was good enough to place its green at the disposal of the contestants. Keen interest was felt by all the clubs in the game. Victoria, being the larger'club, had the larger number of players to select from, but on the other hand Johnsonville’s performances during the season proved that they could be depended upon to put two very good teams into the field. This was proved again in Saturday’s match, especially in the game between Dunbar Sloane (Johnsonville) and Norwood (Victoria), which ended in a. tie —l 4 all. The finish was brought about principally by the rattling good play of Sloane, who drew the shot with, his last ball when his opponents were lying 5,4, 3,3, 2, thus saving the score against him of 17 points. His was truly a very fine performance. The game between Turner (Johnsonville) and Bolton (Victoria) was also ‘a keen one, and Victoria had to battle for every point. After the game was over, cheers were very heartily given for the runners-up by the winning team. Mr. C. B. Norwood, on. behalf of the players, thanked the Thorndon Club foi- the use of the green, and for' the hospitality extended to the teams. The winners then returned to their own green, where they were given a warm welcome by their clubmates. A tribute was paid also to the losers for the keen, hard fight they had made. Heart}' cheers were given for them at the call of Ithe president (Mr. W. F. Jackson).
