A TELEPHONIC NEED
SECOND WIRE FROM CITY TO ' NAPIER. Respecting better telephonic communicatiou between Wellington and Napier, the secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce (Mr. H. D. Yickory) re. ported, at yesterday's meeting "f the council that he had written to the act-ing-secretary Qf the Post- and Teiegrapb. Department to the following effect:— "I have been directed by the chamber to write yon regarding telephonic com--munication between Wellington and the Hawkc's Bay district. The council understands that at the present time it is not possible to communicate by telephone with, for example, the towns of Napier and Hastings during the day time, but only between the hours of 6 p.m. and 3 a.m. It is also given to understand that daily communication by telephone with these towns would only bo possible by the installation of a second wire. Considerable business is done between Wellington and Hawke's Bay towns, and it would be a decided convenience to Oho business community if it were possible to communicate by telephone during the day time. I was ■ directed to inquire, therefore, whether there was any likelihood of a second wire being installed, or of other arrangements being made to enable day communication."
