COAL AREAS
DAIRY PRODUCERS RESTIVE. By Telegraph— Special Reporter. Palmerston North, June 22. One.of. the features of the address of the chairman of the National Dairy Association' (Mr. A. Morton) at to-day's meeting of that body, was his vigorous advocacy, of more progressive policy in connection, with the tapping of undeveloped coal areas in, the Dominion, inere were enormous-areas of coal available m New; Zealand, lie said, but on account either of a dearth of labour or the method of controlling labour, nothing whatever was being done to devolop them.' He referred particularly to the large coal areas m the Ohura district, on the route of the Tailway survey .from Stratford to Okahukura. _ At present 'much development work in connection with dairy bv- ' products was being held, up through' lack of an assured coal supply; He advocated the construction of the railway line referred to in order to tap big coal deposits and large areas of white pine timber'. Incidentally the line would relieve the Main Trunk of much of its present congestion.,} The Wnikato. Dairy Co. had, grappled ; with'tho question of<coal supplies, _and had acquired area 9 and would be independent of the present sources of B »PPjy- If the line were constructed an effort would probably be made to obtain coal areas in Taranaki in the interests ot the dairying industry.
