On the average income tax payers throughout the Commonwealth paid £18 each last year. This year, with the additional 25 per cent, added and the readjustment of tlio statutory deductions, the average of those taxpayers will be heavier. The fact, however, of many new taxpayers being brought in will diminish the average, while increasing the aggregate amount of the tax. There were 235,111 income tax payers in the Commonwealth last year. There wore also 17.513 land tax payers, of whom 3431 were absentees.
