WORK IS NORMAL MINISTERS'PACT WITH UNIONS NOT TO APPLY TO SEDITION CASES. Reports from the coal mines are to tho effect that the miners are keeping their promise not to restrict output, and that about tho normal quantity of coal is being won at the mines. In other respects work is proceeding without' Special incident. Everything'now depends on the result of the conference which is to meet here on Thursday.
Sir James Allen was asked yesterday whether the Government considered the men recently arrested—Webb, O'Rorke, and within the scope of tlie_naet made by him with the unions on the West Coast. Sir James Allen replied most emphatically that ...they did not, that the Government had not made any agreement about men charged with sedition or seditious utterances. It is understood that the Government has not.received any demands or appeals for the release of these three men last arrested, of whom two have since been convicted and sentenced. "GO-SLOW" MEN RELEASED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, May 7. Nine ■ miners, recently sentenced (seven to nine months' imprisonment and two to two months' imprisonment) for their, part played in connection with the "go-slow" policy in various mines in the Dominion, were today released.from Mount Eden Gaol. The men signed a : personal bond of £50 not to take part in any strike or to encourage or procure a strike for twelve months.
