SOMETHING WRONG WITH APPRENTICES
By Telegraph—i'ress Awot.-ation Christchiirch, 1 June 13. At the Arbitration Court, the Saddle, Harness, and Collar Makers applied for an award. In tabling the recommendations' from the Conciliation Council, the Hon. J. Barf said something was wrong when apprentices were continually dropping out of the trade. Mr. Justice Stringer said the system of apprenticeship as disclosed by the Court proceedings lvas not satisfactory. Learners' wages were fixed, and no incentivo was offered for the display, of enthusiasm. Tho only reward of a diligent apprentice was that lie would be sure of a position at the end of his training course.
