YEAR'S WOEKINO. The thirty-ninth annual report and statement of accounts of the Timaru Harbour Board for tho year ended. December 31, 1916. has come to hand. Tne chairman of the boaTd (Mr. P. J. Rolleston) gives the position" of tho board a« follows:—"As anticipated, the revenue of tho port has shown a decrease of about i £2709, as compared with the previous year. This falling off in revenue has, however, been common to other boards throughout tho Dominion, and unfortunately th<s indications for the present year point to no Improvement. I think onT finances are in a 6tron? enough-condition to bear the strain of a bad year, but, while we have already offccted several economics with a view to meeting the falling off in revenue, it still behoves ue to exercise the closest watch over our 'expenditure during the coming yeax."
