AMERICAN POLICY
CRITICISM BY AN AMERICAN fly Telegraph—Prose Association—Copyritlit (Rec. January 9, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 8. The London correspondent ' of the Chicago "Daily News," the doyen of American journalists, in England, in a striking attack on American policy, says: "Since the war American prestige abroad sank to the lowest depths ever reached. Americans abroad are uncom-, i'ortablo and apologetic. The picture of President Wilson screened at the music balls in London provokes hissing and hooing. The low opinion in England is due to our failure to give expression to our outraged conscience'and long suffering in the face «f repeated frightful crimcs. We have lost prestige in France, Italy, Russia, aud' the Balkans, while the Germans hold us to be more tuau foes everywhere. It is said wo are 'diseased with the itcli for money,' namby pamby, and too sordid and cowai'dly to fight." ANOTHER AMERICAN NOTE A VIGOROUS ONE THIS TIME. (Eec. January 9, 5.5 p.m.) Washington, January 8. Tho United States has dispatched a vigorous Noto to Britain protesting against British interference with American mails on route to neutral countries.
