LUSITANIA TRAGEDY
COMPENSATION FOR AMERICA By Telegraph—Press Association—Coryr!rt* Washington, January 7. Germany has replied relative to tho sinking ot the Lusitania, agreeing -to - pay compensation for tho American lives lest, but contending that the destruction of the Lusitania was an act of reprisal against the British blockade. Germany gives assurances that tho commanders of submarines in the Mediterranean will not torpedo privately-own-ed vessels without giving warning. SINKING OF THE PERSIA AMERICA WILL NOT PROTEST. Washington, January 7. It is not likely that America will protest against the sinking of the Persia, unless there is better proof that she was torpedoed.
