The speakers pointed out that i thirteen of tne Shaw-Savill Company's i and thirteen of the ■ New Zealand Shipr' ping Company's steamers were affeoted. These came direct, and only picked up two lights, for which they previously paid £650. Under the new tariff thoy pay £3577. It was suggested that all vessels should be charged £25. Mr. Tudor stated that the lighthouse , service must pay its way. The Tasmani ian lights were costing more than their . income. He promised reconsideration . of the question.
