THE STRANGE ENROTH CASE
COURT GRANTS REDRESS. (By Telejrrapli.—Pres« Association) New Plymouth, April 20. The sequel to one of the most extraordinary cases ever heard in the Courts, and. the first of the kjnd in New Zealand, was reached in the Supremo Court to-day when the reserved decision.of His Honour Mr. Justice Edwards was read in the' case Clara Berridge v. the Public Trustee, in the estate of Benjamin' Enroth.. Tho case, which was heard in February, involved a claim for an order setting _ aside a transfer of land made by plaintiff to Enroth in the belief that she was his lawful wife. Enroth's real name .-was Thome and he had a wife living when he married plaintiif. The defence claimed an allowance for permanent improvements made on the laiid by Enroth. The judgment gives the land back to plaintiff and no allowance is made for jmprovoments on grounds, Enroth being cognisant of fraud. The judgment orders the payment to plaintiff of moneys fraudulently received by Enroth. The details of tho decree are to be settled in Chambers between-counsel.
