STATE AID SOUGHT. <By T6]w»ph.- Pitts Aeeocl«lleß.> ' Auohland, April 20. The Hon. W. F. Massey was interviewed to-day bv a deputation representing interestea public todies who asked Government assistance in conducting a bridge across the Waitomata Harbour to connect the city with tho North Shore boroughs of Northcote, Takapuna,Birkonhead, and Devonport. It was argued that, if a small toll were paid by tho owners of cattle using the bridgo that in itself would • probably be sufficient to pay tho interest on the cost of the structure.

Mr. Massey promised to consider the matter and said that, if it were practicable, the Government might add this question to the ordor of reference of the commission which is to inquire into tho matter of utilising the waterways in tho Auckland Province. Mr. Massey left for Whangarei tonight and will spenda week in the Northern Peninsula. v
