HANSARD.

Sir,—Mr. Buick, the member for Palmerston. North, never said a truer word in his statement to tho House last evening: "That Hansard would be more carefully read, and with greater interest, if the public were charged so much a copy." On the Minister's showing, we aro paring over £5000 a year, for Hansard. It is well known that a large majority of those getting the paper do not read or even open it. I have personally seen at least a dozen Hansards not opened in one prominent business place. If the public want Hansard, by all means let them pay for it. The sum of ds. a year is cheap enough for anyone who wants Hansard. The Reforrn Government are committed to a policy of cantious expenditure, and is preaching self-denial to tho public, and any action taken to bring about a further eaving of .£4OOO or £5000 a year would further enhance the good offices of the Reform Government, and they would unquestionably receive the approval of the general public thereby.—l am, etc., ■ ■ ' J.T.M.
