ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the St. John Ambulance Association says that the year has been a useful one for the more "permanent work of the association in that it has provided some valuable recruits for the St. John Brigade, while the ambulance conveyance work has developed to a very important position in public utility. The service is proving itself a necessity in the unfortunate requirements of a busy centre. The ambulance brougham has become a popular conveyanco for the sick and has quite justified the expenditure incurred in its purchase. The absence of complaint with the jconduct df the service is gratifying, and proves that the contractor is doing his work well. The number of students during the year was not as great as was expected, but this was mainly due to some cf the institutions postponing their classes for a season through the paucity of new recruits after years of operation. The total number of student? who took the courses of instruction in First Aid and Home Nursing was 408, of whom 1!)4 were iron and 2H wore women. Of these, 153 wen and 139 women passed the subsequent examination. In addition to' Wellington, classes were held at Carterton, Foildiiig, Foxton, Hnwera,' Masterton, Napier, I'almerston North, and I'etoue.
