RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Palmerston North, Mar 8. The .North Island Railway Appeal Board sat in Palmerston to-day, Dr. M'Arthur presiding. Mr. C. W. Ryan represented the first division, and -Mr. V. Games tho second. Mr.> Mouat appeared for the Department. . , . Charles Murphy appealed agamst his dismissal for alleged insubordination. Murphy was told by the coaching foreman to put a box on the Foxton train. He refused because tho box was not properly labelled or oxcessed, which was contrarV to the stationmaster's instructions. 'Tho coaching foreman considered the box properly labelled. Murphy denied tho correctness of ' the evidence signed bv him at the Departmental innniry. The chairman said Murphy must have been a lunatic to 6ign anything without reading it first. Judgment was reserved till, to-morrow. "Walter Short appealed against his dismissal. He went from Wellington to Shannon on transfer. When asked by the foreman to sign on he refused to do as requested. It was alleged Hi at he was under the influence of drink, and was impudent to tho goods agent. Docision' was reserved. Robert Leo appealed against the reduction of his salary. Appellant, a signalman, was reduced for going to sleep whilo on duty in a signal-box at Palmerston. The appeal was dismissed without calling on tho Department.
