At half-past i o'clock this morning a fifteen-roomed boarding establishment known as Wellington House, was completely gutted by fire. The brigade was promptly on the scene, its excellent work preventing what threatened to bo a disastrous conflagration, as Johnston and Co.s bond store and a timber merchants establishment adjoined the burning building, and a gale of wind was blowing, fhe building is owned by Mr. balek, U cllington, and the insurances are unknown. j BUSH FIRES. Gisborne, December 7. Bush firca occurred in tho Whareata and Morero districts. Many settlers were up all night fighting the flames which spread rapidly over the counrrv aided by a high wind. Ko homcsteals have been lost but a good deal of fencing, also sheepyards, hare been <»e----stroyed. ,-c THE DUNEDIN ROUGHS, Dunedin, December 7. As a eeqnel to the disorderly scenes last night at an open-air meeting, a youth, who had been arrested for thromnz. a sack, appeared in the Police Court this morning, and received a salutary sentence of seven days' imprisonment without the option.
