OBITUARY.

I DEATH OF MB. A. R, MATO. (By Telegraph.—Press Associations Feilding, October 10. A very distressing occurrence took place hero tin's morning, when Jlr. A. B. Mayaa leading orchardist of this district, dropped dead. Ho bad always been regarded as an eminently hcnlthy man, and his jolly disposition strengthened that impression. it appears, however, that after milking a cow this morning, ho fell down, and was picked up doad. The cause of death is thought to havo been heart disease. Jlr. Jfayo was 0110 of the most useful citizens of the district. Within a tow years lie converted his Crown lease at Aorangi into a model orchard, which was so beautifully kept that no distinguished visitor was ever allowed to leave the district without seeing it, His knowledge of fruit-growing, horticulture, and farming generally was extensive, and ho was always very willing to givo others the benefit of what be knew. •He was a wollknown judgo at flower shows and school f aniens, a prominent member of the 'eilding A. and P. Association, and was serving for a second year ns chairman of the Feilding branch of the Farmers' Union. He was also a Jlason. His doalh will bo a distinct loss to tho district.

Deceased was between forty and fifty years of age, and was born in tho Auckland district, where ho spent his boyhood. After living for somo years at I'almerston he eamo to Aorangi ten years mo. He leaves a. wife and family.
