Mr. C. P. Skorrott, K.C., proposes to leave London for New Zealand this week. Ho expects to rcach Wellington about the end of tho year. A London Press Association message states that Captain Reeves, of the East Kent Regiment, has Ireen selected for service in New Zealand. Mr. Edward Brown, of Wellington, and son of Sir, Peter Brown (for many years stevedore for tho Now Zealand Shipping Company), who served his apprenticeship at Cable s Foundry, has just been promoted to be chief engineer of the s.s. Inveran. lie is only twenty-flvo years of age, and his rapid promotion is a record for a Now Zealunder. Tho Inveran is at present on the South American trade. The Keefton agent of the Press Association telegraphs that Air. J. A. Montgomerie, who was for over thirty years District Surveyor on the West Coast, has died from the clfects of an accident he met with last Tuesday. Mr. S. H. Mirarns, of Dunedin, is dead; aged.seventy-iive years. Mr. Mirams arrived in Dunedin in 1802. He was born at Sheerness, Kent, lingland, and at tho age of twenty, sailed for Melbourne, where ho was fdr"£btii'e years in the employ "of" a firm of architects and engineers. In 1802 he becamo assistant engineer under tho Provincial Government of Otago. Two years later he retired from tho Government service, and commenced practice as an architect and engineer. In 1863 he was appointed City Surveyor for Dunedin, a position he held till 1001, in which year ho was mado secretary to tho Dunedin Drainage and Sowerage Board. He retired, owing to ill-health, in 1903.

Mr. P. H. Maysmor, of tho Vacuum Oil Company's local staff, left for Christchurch by tho Mararoa last evening.

Mr. T. A. Butler, of the local staff of tho Vacuum Oil Company, leaves for Auckland by to-day's Main Trunk express. Mr. Butler is to relievo in the Auckland company's offico for a poriod'of six weeks. A presentation was mado last night in Mr. Brueo's rooms, Willis Street, by tho members of tho Hereawa Hockey Clulj, to Mr. J. F. Kuch, their captain, on tho occasion of his approaching marriage. Mr. Cusack, chairman of the Wellington Wednesday Hockey Association, made tho presentation, consisting of a handsomo salad bowl, as a memento of the happy days spent together, and expressed their good wishes for his future happiness. Mr. Kuch, in ,a few well-chosen words, thanked the members for their good wishes and their vory generous gift.

The Christchurch Presbytery vesterday nominated the Rev. A. Cameron, of Anderson's Bay, Dunedin. as moderator of the General Assembly of 1912-13.—Press Association.

Mr. St. Lawrence Toner died at his residence at Parnell on Saturday last at the early age of thirty-nine years. He was a native of the city of Dublin, shortly after his arrival in the Dominion he was attached to the staff of Sir James Carroll, on the latter's tour through the Urcwera country. Subsequently Mr. Toner left the Government service, and came to Auckland, where lie married Miss Rita Tole, nicco of the Hon. J. A. Tole. Being possessed of special musical abilities, and an admirable baritono voice, be took up the profession of vocal music teacher in Napier, where he was very popular, baring for a number of years ably filled the position of secretary and treasurer of the Ha die's Bay Professional Musical Society. It was his intention to liavo returned shortly to Ireland, but lie, unfortunately, succumbed alter an illness of about four months.

Iho Auckland Presbytery has unanimously nominated tbe Rev, A. Cameron, °f Dunedin, for the position of Moderator of tho General Assembly.—Press Association.
