AND A RATHER LONELY SISTER. While they wore engaged in sounding work between Capo Maria Van Diemen mid the Throe Kings, those on board the Terra Nova were cut ofT from news of tho world, except when a passing steamer was communicated with. .Tho passing of the steamers running between Auckland and Sydney was eagorly watchod for. It generally happened that if tho steamers passed in daylight, they went close by tho Terra Nova, and at times slowed down ■and communicated tho latest important happenings. At night mi 'ages were exchanged by Morse signal lamps. A member of the crew of the Terra Nova stated that the Wimmora and tho Vjotoria were particularly good friends. When they passed in daylight, files of newspapers were dropped overboard from these steamers, and were picked up by a boat's crew from tho Terra Nova. A case of fruit from one of these steamers was a very acceptable gift.
