THE MOKAU BLOCK.
A SUGGESTION. Parliament may have nest week another opportunity of discussing the Mokau land transactions. Mr. Newman, member for Manawatu, has given notice to ask the Acting-Minister for Lands (Mr. Buddo) whether ho will consider the expediency of resuming for the purposes of closer settlement that block of land known as tho Mokau Block, containing 50,000 acres, the freehold of which was recently sold by tho Niftives at 10s. k\. per acre to a private individual with the consent of the Government? In support of this suggestion, Mr. Newman submits that, in view of tho extremely low price, jpaid for the. land in quescWitl , paml''wlth' , 'itceint values "paid by the Government under the Land tor Settlements Acts, the Government should have been able to dispose of tho block referred to on terms unusually, advantageous to small settlers.
