HOW MEMBERS VOTED. A Napier correspondent writes: "Will you kindly publish the names of thoso members of l'nrliauicjit who voted for and against the Tramways Bill ou its second raulinjj?" Uur correspondent no doubt n'ants some indication of (lie attitude of member!; on the points that have given rise to Iho current controversy. The only divisions were those in Committee (there were, 20 of them), and on nineteen of these the member for Napier voted with the Government. On the other occasion liu did not vote. The first crucial division was upon n hostile amendment hi the proposal to give a Public Works -Department oliicial unlimited powers of inspection and enforceable report. All the Wellington members and (he member for the Jlutt voted against the Government. Amongst t'lio supporters of the GovernmenL weru Messrs. Picld (Otaki), Brown (Xapipr), Hogan (Wanganui), Ross (Pahiatua), ami Smith (Rangitikoi). The eecoud crucial division, and the chief one,-took placo over the clauso conferring on the Government tho powers under which it has issued the regulations now under discussion. The opening shot was fired by Mr. J. P. Luke, who moved tho vital amendment that tho clause, should apply only to privately-owned tramways. Mr. M'Laren was the only Wellington member who voted with the Government on this occasion.
